VIRGINIA CITY - The largest margin of victory in the Storey County elections Tuesday night went to Lorraine Du Fresne, who was running for the vacant clerk/treasurer position.
Du Fresne garnered 76 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Craig Givant 1,296 to 406. Both candidates were Republican.
"I was surprised by the numbers, and I'm happy that I won," Du Fresne said.
In the Storey County Commissioner District 1 race, incumbent John Flanagan, a Republican, defeated democratic challenger Nick Nicosia 1,194 to 636.
"I'd really like to thank the voters of Storey County for their support. I didn't realize I was going to win by that margin," Flanagan said. "I will try to continue to do the job for them and earn that large vote."
Nicosia said the process taught him about how the makeup of Storey County is changing.

"I think this was extraordinary, and I would do it again. I wouldn't change a thing I did except for maybe start earlier," Nicosia said. "I learned a lot about the diversity of Storey County during this election."
Several candidates for county and school board positions were running unopposed for office, including Assessor Kathy Weeks, Recorder-Auditor Sarah Jensen, School Board Trustee Seat 2A Deny Dotson and School Board Trustee Seat 2B Pamela J. Smith.
