Library offers story time for children

Children's Story Time is 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday at the Dayton Library, 321 Old Dayton Valley Road.

Ski, snowboarding enthusiasts to meet

The Dayton 4-H Ski & Snowboard Club will have information and enrollment meetings Nov. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. in the Dayton Intermediate School multipurpose room.

This club is open to students aged 9 through high school, and beginners are welcome.

A lift ticket, lesson, rental equipment and transportation are included in the package price. Parents are encouraged to attend. For information, call 246-0961.

WNCC to present 'Fiddler' musical

Western Nevada Community College Fallon will offer "Fiddler on the Roof," Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Nov. 16-18. Shows will be 7 p.m. at the Churchill County High School Theatre.

"Fiddler on the Roof" illustrates how strong family ties, customs, and love can help carry a Jewish family through the woes of being oppressed.

Mary Myers will direct, Bridget Rigg-Anderson will be assistant director and stage manager, Debbie Edwards will choreograph the musical, and Scott Thompson will be the artistic director. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for children 12 years and younger. Call (775) 423-7565.

Legion post to hold oratorical contest

The American Legion Post No. 37 will hold its Americanism Oratorical Scholarship contest at 7 p.m. Monday at Fernley City Hall.

The High Desert Horsemen will be holding a "Despooking clinic" at 9 a.m. Nov. 18, at Hamilton's Arena in Stagecoach.

Virginia City

Veterans feted with parade, discounts

Virginia City will show its appreciation of veterans with a parade on Saturday and discounts in participating businesses both Saturday and Sunday

Entries are still being accepted for the Veterans Day Parade, which forms at 10 a.m. at the Fourth Ward School, and begins at 11 a.m.

A spaghetti dinner for parade participants will follow the parade at the Storey County Senior Center, at the corner of Mill and E streets. Late entries are welcome.

Veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive discounts on merchandise, meals and drinks in any business that supports an "Armed Forces Appreciation Weekend Participant" sign. Call 847-4768.

Comstock Cowboys to hold Christmas show at Piper's

David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform their annual holiday show, "Christmas in the Sierra," at Piper's Opera House on Dec. 9.

Shows will be 4 and 7:30 p.m., with proceeds to benefit Piper's Opera House and the Virginia City Chamber of Commerce Events Fund.
