A memorial service for Joseph Edwards, 64, a 13-year Bartlesville, Okla., resident, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bartlesville.
Mr. Edwards died Nov. 11, 2006, in Bartlesville. He was born June 1, 1942 in Holdenville, Okla., to Collins "Plowboy" and Edna Marguerite Bowles Edwards.
He attended Eastern Oklahoma A&M College, Western Nevada Community College, and Oklahoma Wesleyan University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1996.
He was the publisher of the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise for 13 years and had served on the Carson City Planning Commission. He was a former Nevada Appeal employee. Before his newspaper career, Mr. Edwards was a rodeo bull rider, a boxer, a miner and a truck driver.
He had served in the Army National Guard, retiring as a staff sergeant in the 1990s.
He belonged to the Rotary club, Toastmasters, United Way and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. In Oklahoma, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 105. He was also a Washington County Sheriff's Office reserve deputy. He recently became a Christian and was baptized.
He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
Among his survivors are his wife, Linda, of Rochester, Minn., and son Wade Edwards of Ventura, Calif.
Memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Sheriff Reserves, 400 S. Johnstone Ave., Bartlesville, OK 74003.
Walker-Brown Funeral Home in Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.
