Chad Shroy and Christy Works won their respective races to help the Carson High boys and girls cross country teams sweep their Sierra League meet against Damonte Ranch and Hug Wednesday in Reno.

Shroy ran a personal record time of 15 minutes, 59 seconds over the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course at Brown Elementary School to lead Carson's boys team to victories against Hug (21-40) and meet host Damonte Ranch (17-45) that clinched a berth in the Northern 4A Regional Championships on Oct. 26 at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. The Senators are now 5-1 in Northern 4A duals and the top four teams in both the Sierra and High Desert leagues qualify for the regional meet.

"It was a good run for our kids," Carson assistant coach Jeanne Stelzer said. "The weather was perfect and the kids responded with some good times. All those miles they've been running are starting to pay off."

Freshman Richard Shroy ran 17:09 to capture second-place, Caleb Carter ran 18:18 to place fifth, improved sophomore Zach Mapes ran his best race of the season to place seventh in 18:26 and Ethan Graber placed eighth in 18:33 to round out the team scoring. Andrew Stevenson placed ninth in 19:11 and Tyler Davies 10th in 19:28 for the Senators.

Meanwhile, Carson's girls swept the top seven places in their race to post perfect scores in wins against Hug and Damonte Ranch.

A mere 77 seconds separated the top seven Senators, led by Works with a 20:57 effort. Freshman Yvonne Hollett was close behind as she ran 21:08 to capture second-place, Kristin Dockery ran 21:21 for third-place, Gloria Sosa 21:47 to place fourth, Yvette Hollett 22:06 to place fifth, Jenny Mital 22:12 to place sixth and Meagan Meyer 22:14 to place seventh.

The Senators run again this Saturday morning at the high-powered Clovis Invitational in Fresno, Calif.
