Galena falls in four to Spanish Springs

Amy Scott had 13 blocks but it wasn't enough for the Galena High volleyball team in a 22-25, 24-26, 25-19, 21-25 loss to Spanish Springs on Thursday.

Scott added seven kills and an ace for Galena (16-10, 6-2). Also for Galena, Johanna Dibble had eight kills, five blocks and nine digs, Casey Burke had eight kills and an ace, Anna Mestre had six kills and an ace, Madison Hardy had 23 assists and nine digs, Emily Aguiar had two aces and five blocks, Bree Crook had 15 digs, Micaella Lim had 12 digs and Brooke Keever added five digs.

Galena won the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-19 and the freshmen match 25-23, 25-22.

Gonzales, Robison and Van Sickle qualify for state

Fernley's Chai Gonzales and Jessi Robison and Dayton's Becca Van Sickle were all able to qualify for the NIAA 3A State Championships at the Northern 3A Golf Championships held on Thursday at the Golf Club at Fernley.

Gonzales, Robison and Van Sickle were all among the top 10 players plus ties on non-qualifying teams to qualify for the state event to be held Monday and Tuesday at Genoa Lakes. Gonzales fired a 97 to take 10th overall.

Robison and Van Sickle were just able to qualify as they tied for 10th at 109. Those who just missed qualifying included Dayton's Teresa Cash, who shot a 110 and Dayton's Jen Minor and Yerington's Zeena Willis, who both fired a 111.
