Drug-trafficking charges were filed Tuesday against a Fernley teacher following a search of her home last week that resulted in the alleged seizure of methamphetamine and marijuana and in the arrest of her husband.

The criminal complaint filed in Canal Township Justice Court charges Fernley Intermediate School teacher Kymberly Tamburello, 43, with trafficking in methamphetamine, maintaining a residence for the purpose of sales, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana and unlawful use of both marijuana and methamphetamine.

According to Lyon County Sheriff's Lt. Bob Sherlock, investigators received information on Oct. 10 that Tamburello and her husband, Charles Tamburello, were dealing meth out of their C Street home in Fernley.

Following a three-day investigation, he said, officers obtained a search warrant for the home which was served about 7 p.m. on Friday.

"As a result of the search, deputies recovered 26.3 grams of methamphetamine and 186.2 grams of marijuana, both of which were packaged for resale," said Sherlock.

Charles Tamburello, 42, was arrested on suspicion of felony trafficking methamphetamine, maintaining a residence for the purpose of sales, possession of a marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana, unlawful use of both marijuana and methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $141,132.

Sherlock said charges against Tamburello were forwarded to the district attorney because the middle school teacher has a pre-existing medical condition for which she needs medication.

Lyon County Deputy District Attorney Brandi Jensen said Tamburello was issued a summons to appear this morning in Fernley justice court.

It's unclear if Tamburello is still working for Fernley Intermediate School. Neither Tamburello nor Lyon County School Superintendent Nat Lommori could be reached for comment.
