Joan Marie Sitton, 77, a nine-year Carson City resident, died Oct. 17, 2006, in Carson City.

Mrs. Sitton was born April 23, 1929, in Hays, Kan., to Peter A. Herrman and Kathryn Esther Holzmeister.

She married Ralph William Sitton on April 21, 1955, in Hays.

Before moving to Carson City, Mrs. Sitton lived in Elyria, Ohio.

She graduated high school and attended college in Hays, Kan., where she majored in psychology.

She was a homemaker and a sales associate with Kaufmann's. She retired after 21 years.

She was a member of a recovery program, where she had made many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers and a son.

Among her survivors are her daughters Kathryn Ely of Carson City and Lea Baker of Dayton; son and daughter-in-law Michael William and Dee Lena Sitton of Lorain, Ohio; sister-in-law Earline Ruth Cox of Midland, Texas; brother Victor Basil Herrman of Lacrosse, Kan.; three grandchildren and one niece.

Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory, and a private family service will be held in Salina, Kan., in the summer.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
