The Western Nevada Community College women's soccer team took just 30 seconds to take control against Redwoods on Friday in Eureka, Calif.

After playing to a 0-0 tie against Shasta in brutal 104-degree conditions in Redding, Calif., on Thursday, the Wildcats enjoyed the cooler environment of Eureka and cruised to a 4-0 win over Redwoods. WNCC scored all four of its goals in the first half.

"It was a great game to have under our belts," WNCC coach Hillary Arthur said. "We definitely came back from a hard game. We do have a very strong and talented team."

Douglas High's Christina Bradshaw won a battle for the ball, dribbled through the defense and put the ball in the lower right corner of the net in the first 30 seconds for WNCC (2-0-2). Less than 12 minutes later, Douglas High's Courtney Lenhart set a shot from outside 18 yards into the upper left corner of the net.

Lenhart then assisted on two goals by Douglas High's Meghan Olsen to finish the scoring in the first half and the game. Olsen moved up to midfield after playing defense against Shasta.

"I think the College of Redwoods kind of stepped up their defense," Arthur said. "We still dominated the second half."

Carson's Allie Otto in the first half and Rachelle Goulet in the second half combined on the shutout.

"Allie Otto put in a solid first half," Arthur said. "Both the keepers did a good job of controlling the defense and being in the right position to make the save. It was good to see Rachelle back in the net."

WNCC also received a boost by the return of Dominique Glude, who came back from a fractured wrist and played the whole game with a cast. Melissa Goldfin, coming back from an ankle injury, also played the first 10 minutes, but had to leave the game. Arthur said she's hopeful that Goldfin can play in WNCC's next game on Tuesday at Paradise Valley in Phoenix.
