Michael Joseph Sheets

A funeral for Michael Joseph Sheets, 49, a 25-year Idaho Falls, Idaho, resident, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Idaho Falls Civic Auditorium, 601 S. Holmes Ave., in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, Idaho Falls.

Mr. Sheets died Sept. 17, 2006, at his home after an illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1957, in Baltimore to Gerald Joseph Sheets and Genevieve Kabernagel Wallace.

He married Amelia Ann Canegaly on Feb. 6, 2001 in San Diego.

He joined the Idaho Falls Fire Department in 1990, last serving as the fire marshal.

He belonged to the Idaho Association of Arson Investigations, was Union President for his fire department and taught fire and EMS education courses.

He frequently attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md. He also served on the board of directors for Scenic Falls Federal Credit Union from 2000 to 2006.

He enjoyed golf, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Among his survivors are his mother of Carson City; wife of Idaho Falls; daughter and son-in-law Emily and Neal Davis of Boise, Idaho; daughters Kristy and Whitney Sheets both of Idaho Falls; brother and sister-in-law Timothy and Laurie Sheets of Carson City; brother Andrew Ethan Rinehart of Florida; uncle, Ralph Kabernagel of Carson City; and two grandchildren.

Burial will take place at the Fielding Memorial Park in Idaho. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2676 Vista Ave., Boise, Idaho, 83705, or Big Brothers and Big Sisters, 478 Shoup Ave., Idaho Falls, Idaho, 83402.
