Carson High's Alex McAlman had a huge day against some tough competition for the University of Nevada women's track team.
McAlman, a freshman, uncorked a personal best throw of 143 feet, 9 inches to finish third at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational held on Saturday at UCLA's Drake Stadium. More than 1,000 athletes from 25 universities competed in the meet.
