A new company in Yerington will be bottling milk for retailers across the region by November.

Mike Compston, managing partner for Western Dairy Specialties, said his company was a custom bottling plant and would be providing private-label bottling services to supermarkets.

"If a retail chain contacts us and they have their own in-house label, we will bottle under their label," he said. "It could be conventional milk products, organic milk products, soy, juice, punch, any of those type of products."

The steel frame of the plant is going up now, with concrete being poured at the facility at 103 McLeod St. in Yerington, and in about a month Compston expects to have the walls and roof up.

Compston expects to bottle about 600,000 gallons of milk and other products, working two eight-hour shifts, seven days a week.

He said the plant will employ 20 to 25 people, with wages averaging $17.50 to $18 per hour.

The property is owned by Nevada Resource Dynamics, which obtained a special use permit for the bottling company last year, with Western Dairy Specialties as the operating company.
