Fallon softball beats Dayton

Alyssa Meihack pitched and hit Fallon to a nonleague softball win Tuesday against Dayton, defeating the Dust Devils 6-3 at the Ed Arciniega Athletic Complex.

Dayton took a 2-0 lead against Fallon with a pair of runs in the third inning. Melissa Goetz and Breann DeHaven each singled. A wild pitch led to Dayton's first run, and Nicole Iractabal then hit an RBI single.

Sierra Barnwell was cruising on the mound for Dayton, breezing through the first three innings. She struck out the first six batters.

With two outs in the fourth, Fallon's Amanda Tye struck out, but she ran to first base on a passed ball. Meihack then stepped up to the plate and belted her third two-run homer in two games to tie the score. Sara Parsons singled and later scored on an error.

Meihack singled in Fallon's fourth run in the sixth inning after Tye had a base hit. Kortney Smith powered a two-run homer to give the Wave a 6-2 lead.

Sara Simmons drove in Daytons' third run in the seventh inning. Goetz was 3-for-4, Simmons was 2-for-4 with a double, Iractabal was 2-for-2 and Brittany Hill added a hit and a run.
