Carson City


Comma Coffee hosts monthly art show


Art enthusiasts see the latest exhibit held at Comma Coffee's Backseat Gallery in cooperation with zArtist.com for the month of September.


Artist Shawn Grayshield may live locally but her imagination knows no bounds. She thoroughly enjoys painting the human form and her travels have given her an interest in varied cultures and diversity.


On display will be at least a dozen of her original oil paintings of local belly dancers, as well as some figurative works.


There will be a reception 5-7 p.m., Wednesday to meet the artist and enjoy hors d'oeuvres; wine and beer will also be available for purchase. The Backstreet Gallery is inside Comma Coffee at 312 S. Carson St.


Feisty Goat Pub opens Saturday


The Feisty Goat Pub, 1881 E. Long St., will have its grand opening Saturday starting at 2 p.m.


The British-style pub will have entertainment, giveaways and, starting at 4 p.m., appetizers and Indian tacos. The pub is owned by Rob Rasner and Lucas Whitmore.




Senior Center holding intro computer classes


Two introduction to computer classes will be offered by the Carson City Senior Center Computer Program. The first class is scheduled for from 1-3 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 4-27. The second class is scheduled for each Monday and Wednesday 9 -11 a.m. from Sept. 10-Oct. 3. Cost for each course is $40 and includes all materials. WNC closed for Labor Day


Western Nevada College will be closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Campuses in Carson City, Fallon, and Minden/Gardnerville, along with the WNC rural centers in Fernley, Hawthorne, Lovelock, Smith, and Yerington will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday.




Douglas County


Douglas Library closed for Labor Day


The Douglas County Public Library in Minden will be closed Monday in observance of the Labor Day Holiday. The library will resume its regular schedule on Tuesday. For information contact the library at 782-9841.




Michael's hosting craft project day


Michael's Store will host a free family craft project day from noon-2 p.m. Sunday. Participants will decorate a baseball cap using markers, feathers, beads and more, while supplies last.


There will be a drawing for a free Kids Craft Basket Giveaway at 1:30 p.m. Michael's is located at 911 Topsy lane.


Reno


Lacy J. Dalton plays at Reno concert


Songstress and poet Lacy J. Dalton and her band, the Dalton Gang, will appear in two concerts Sept. 8, at 4 and 8 p.m. at the Reno Soroptimist's Second Annual Reno Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival at the Hawkins Amphitheater at the Bartley Ranch.


Appearing on the roster with Dalton will be two lyrical cowboy poets, Pat Richardson and Jim Parsons. David John and the Comstock Cowboys will appear in concert Friday night. All the proceeds from this Soroptimist International of Reno fundraiser benefits local scholarship programs and community programs assisting Nevada mothers and children. Darryl Worley to play free concert


Darryl Worley will present a free concert at 8 p.m. tonight at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.


Worley is a country music phenomenon, a preacher's son and a moonshiner's grandson from Pyburn, Tenn., who won academic honors in high school and at the University of North Alabama even while blowing off steam singing and partying hard on the honky-tonk circuit. For details, see www.janugget.com.
