DOD announces deaths of two American servicemembers in Iraq

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of a Marine and an Army soldier who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl. John C. Tanner, 21, of Columbus, Ga., died Aug. 29 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Spc. Edward L. Brooks, 25, of Dayton, Ohio, died Aug. 29 in Ramadi, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
