MINDEN - East Fork Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl set bail at $250,000 cash for a Chico, Calif., man charged with five counts of sexual assault after a 14-year-old girl claimed he kidnapped her and brought her to a Minden motel.

Dustin Adam Casebeer, 22, is to appear in court today.

He appeared before EnEarl on Monday where he denied the charges and attorney Tod Young was appointed to defend him.

Casebeer told EnEarl he came to Carson Valley a few weeks ago from Chico where he was laid off from his job as a jam cook.

When asked if he understood the charges against him, he said he didn't.

"I read them, but they're not true," Casebeer said.

Eleven Douglas County sheriff's officers responded to the Holiday Lodge on Nov. 29 after they were told of a possible kidnapping involving a female juvenile.

She told deputies that her mother dropped her off at a Paradise, Calif., middle school that morning and she ran into Casebeer, whom she described as an ex-boyfriend.

She said he ordered her to get in his vehicle and he drove to Minden where he checked into the lodge. She said he handcuffed her and raped her five times after she refused to have sex with him.

She said she didn't try to escape because the suspect said he had a gun, but she never saw a weapon.
