Store fundraiser to sponsor CHS Blue Thunder Band


GEM Ventures Inc. will sponsor a fundraiser through Dec. 15 for the Carson High School Blue Thunder Band.


The store will donate 10 percent of all sales to the band. GEM Ventures Inc. is located at 4209 S. Carson St.

Lions club selling candy to benefit underprivileged


Carson City Host Lions Club See's Candy Sales from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. through Dec. 20 Tuesdays through Sundays at four convenient locations: Fuji Park, Save-Mart on Highway 50 East and Airport Road, Raley's on Highway 395 South and Save-Mart on College Parkway and Highway 395 North.


Funds from the candy sales support the purchase of eye glasses and exams for local underprivileged and the Carson City Host Lions Club's scholarship fund.




Museum to pay tribute to Pearl Harbor survivors


The Nevada State Museum will mark the official re-opening of the USS Nevada Silver Service exhibit and pay tribute to all the men and women who have served in the armed forces 2 p.m. today.


The Navy League, including Pearl Harbor survivors will be participating in the ribbon cutting ceremony and a commemorative medallion will be minted on Historic Coin Press No. 1. Minting will be 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.

Medicare counselors available for seniors


Volunteer Medicare Counselors will be at the Carson City Senior Center through Dec. 31. Help is available to help seniors understand or choose a Medicare Drug Program.

Free handbell concert celebrates the season


The Hosanna Handbell Choir will perform a free holiday concert 10-11 a.m. Saturday at GEM Ventures Inc., 4209 S. Carson St.

DAWG hosting adoption event


The Douglas Animal Welfare group (DAWG) will host a holiday dog and cat adoption event 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, 921 Pinenut Road in Gardnerville.


Each adoption includes training, microchip and spay or neuter.
