A funeral service for Joe Burnell Swindle, 79, a Dayton resident since 1999, will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home in Hayward, Calif. Burial will follow at the Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park.

Mr. Swindle died Feb. 7, 2007, at his home. He was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Brownwood, Texas, to Joseph B. and Corina Swindle.

Before moving to Dayton, Mr. Swindle traveled the United States and lived in Alameda, Calif.

He worked as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement in 1985.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 20, 1945, and served during World War II.

He was a Baptist, and enjoyed fishing, gold mining and playing slot machines.

Among his survivors are his wife, Betty Swindle, of Dayton; daughters Linda Pidilla of Mantica, Calif., and Karen Hurst of Stockton, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Autumn Funerals and Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
