Carson City

Kids learn decision making

Carson Middle School is sponsoring "Street Smart: Making SAFE Decisions" from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight in the campus gym.

There will be presentations on gangs, peer pressure, bullying and the school-alert auto-dialer system. Also available will be resources and local agency representatives so students and their parents can ask questions.

The Carson City Community Coalition, "Working Together For A Gang Free Community," also has been invited to attend.

Similar events are being planned for other local schools. Those dates will be announced.

Shade Tree Council to meet

The Shade Tree Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Capitol Conference Room at City Hall, 201 N. Carson St. Enter from Musser Street.

Topics include upcoming Arbor Day celebration, George Washington Ferris Award and possible tree-planting grants.

Indian taco dinner Friday

The public is invited to an Indian taco dinner hosted by the Carson City Emblem Club Friday at the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St. There will be cocktails at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person. Proceeds will go to local charities. For information, call 267-1835 or 882-4773.

Fey hosts discussion on slots

Author Marshall Fey will host a program and discussion on slot machines at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada State Museum. Regular admission applies. This program is free for members. For information, call 687-4810 ext. 239.

Douglas County

Minden library sells book

The Douglas County Public Library Minden branch, 1625 Library Lane, will be holding a book sale Tuesday through March 6 in the front lobby of the library. Videos, DVDs, audio books, and paperbacks will be on sale. Paperbacks will be fifty cents each; all other items will be priced as marked. For information, call 782-9841.

NARFE to meet

The Min-Gard NARFE Chapter 2167 meets at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Carson Valley United Methodists Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. Guest speaker is Deputy Chief Bobby Wartgow, East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts. All retired and active federal employees, as well as any one else interested are invited. Refreshments are served.

New scrapbooking class at senior center

The Douglas County Senior Center will be holding a new class called "Heritage Makers." The introduction to this class will be from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. today at the center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville. Consultant Victoria Moon will explain how to take photographs and make them into a scrapbook, and give her fees and schedule. Call 783-6455.
