Edward C. Hoppe, 85, a Minden resident for 28 years, died July 6, 2007, at home.

He was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Hamtramiud, Mich., to Joseph Hoppe and Sophia Shepanski.

Prior to moving to Minden, Mr. Hoppe lived in Pleasant Hill, Calif.

He was a high school graduate. He served in the U.S. Marines. He was a Pearl Harbor veteran and received a Purple Heart for his service. He was a member of Coventry Cross Episcopal Church. He was Citizen of the Year 1990-1991, Carson Valley Sertoma Service to Mankind in 1991.

Mr. Hoppe was preceded in death by son Bruce Hoppe; sisters Eleanore and Gertrude.

Among his survivors are his wife, Enola "Jay" Hoppe, of Minden; sons, Scott Hoppe of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Jeffry Hoppe of Virginia City; brother Joseph Hoppe of Texas; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory.

Memorial contributions can be made to Coventry Cross Episcopal Church, to the Coventry Cross Building Fund or to a favorite charity.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
