A funeral for Jose Garcia, 81, a 20-year Gardnerville resident, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church. A reception will follow the service.

Mr. Garcia died July 23, 2007, at his home. He was born Feb. 5, 1926, to Emilo Garcia and Francisca Casanovas in San Diego.

He married Alice Garcia on May 28, 1969, in Hollywood.

Prior to moving to Gardnerville, he lived in San Fernando Valley. He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth's Catholic School and Van Nuys High School. He was in the construction industry. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Knights of Columbus, St. Gall Immaculate Heart of Mary Council, American Legion Post 9936.

Mr. Garcia enjoyed fishing and skiing.

He was preceded in death by grandson Michael Lewis.

Among his survivors are his wife, of Gardnerville; sons Christopher of Carson City, Nicolas of Gardnerville; son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Andrea Garcia of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Patrick Lewis of Los Angeles; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
