Carson City

Families sought to house exchange students

International exchange high school students are coming to study in the Carson City area during the 2007-08 school year. The students will integrate themselves into a Carson City family with the goal of experiencing American culture as an American high school student. In turn, they will provide insight into their own culture.

STS Foundation is a nonprofit student- exchange organization.

Students this year include Lorenzo, a 17-year-old boy from Italy who enjoys water skiing in competitions; he participates on the Italian under 17 National team. He also enjoys snow skiing and horseback riding.

Marta is a 16-year-old girl from Poland who now lives with her family in Sweden. She enjoys learning languages, and speaks Polish, Swedish, German and English. She also practices piano, flute and guitar.

They are both excellent students and will have their own spending money and health insurance.

The host family provides a separate bed, family meals and a safe environment.

Three computer classes offered for seniors

The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will offer three computer classes this month.

Introduction to Computers is from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning today, running through June 29. The class is designed for beginners or those who wish to brush up skills. Cost is $40, including all materials.

Introduction to Word is from 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays today-June 29. This class is designed for those who wish to improve their word- processing skills and is aimed at those who already have computer skills. Cost is $40, including all materials.

An Intermediate Computers workshop is from 9-11 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through June 20. The class is designed for those who wish to improve their computer skills. Cost is $30 including all materials.

Class size in each of these classes is limited to eight students.

Retired public employees meet today at center

The Carson City Chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 2 p.m. today at the senior citizens center. Guest speaker is Carol Peterson, who is associated with Great Basin Imaging and will discuss the tests they perform. All retired employees are invited. For information, call 883-6334.

Win a Kawasaki Mule with $10 raffle ticket

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare is offering a chance to win a Kawasaki Mule.

Tickets will be sold for $10 with all proceeds benefiting the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. Drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. Attendance is not required to win. Raffle tickets may be purchased at multiple locations. Call 782-6715.

UNR to stage 'Godspell'

The Nevada Repertory Company 2007 Summer Festival and the Reno Little Theater present "Godspell" at the University of Nevada, Reno in July. Auditions will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Redfield Proscenium Theatre on the UNR campus in the Church Fine Arts Building.

"Godspell" will be presented 7:30 p.m. July 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14 with a matinee 1:30 p.m. July 7 at the Redfield Proscenium Theatre.
