Biologist giving more than just blood today

Carl Lackey, wildlife biologist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, will answer questions on Nevada's bear population and the black bear, in general from 2-7 p.m. today at United Blood Services. Stryker and Rooster, Lackey's Karelian bear dogs will accompany him and there will be a display on the Western Nevada black bear.

To learn more about the bear population and how we can safely live in harmony with them, plan to donate at this time.

Capital City Focus off the press, on the Web

With the recent reorganization of city operations due to budget constraints, Capital City Focus will no longer be published. The city will be using its Web site and other means to get the word out on city services.

Free booklet describes proper way to display the flag

To celebrate Flag Day, June 14, national veterans service and disability rights organization, United Spinal Association, is offering Americans a free pamphlet entitled, How to Display Our Flag.

"We at United Spinal can think of no better way to show our support year round for our troops and their families than to appropriately display our flag," said President and CEO Paul J. Tobin.

How to Display Our Flag explains the proper etiquette for presenting the American flag and contains a list of days when the flag is traditionally showcased, such as Flag Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. This pamphlet provides instruction on how the flag should be displayed on a variety of specific occasions such as parades or public events.

Summer youth theater camp beginning

Galena High School theatre teacher Michael Maupin is offering a two week summer theater camp for children ages 11 to 15 beginning 9 a.m. Monday. Activities will include improvisational games, audition workshops, tours of downtown theatre facilities, introduction to voice and dance, and production of a one-act play. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and June 18-22. Camp cost is $400 and will be at the Masonic Temple Auditorium, 40 W. First St., Fourth floor.
