Fox set to receive three-year extension

A contract extension for Nevada men's basketball coach Mark Fox is becoming an annual occurance.

The Board of Regents that governs Nevada's colleges and universities is expected to officially approve a three-year extension to Fox's contract today at its meeting at Truckee Meadows Community College. The extension will be through 2014. Last year, Fox received a five-year extension to his contract through 2011.

Under the terms of the contract, Fox will start out with a base salary of $400,000 and that base salary will increase by $25,000 each year of the contract. There are also several bonuses for performance in the contract.

Fox will receive a $15,000 bonus for leading Nevada to an automatic NCAA Tournament berth. An at-large NCAA berth would be worth $10,000.

He would receive an additional $15,000 bonus if Nevada advances past the NCAA Tournament's first round. An appearance in the Final Four would be worth $25,000 and an NCAA title would mean a $50,000 bonus.

In addition, an NIT berth or a Coach of the Year honor would be worth $5,000. Terms of the contract can be found on the Board of Regents meeting agenda at www.system.nevada.edu.

In his three years as the Wolf Pack's coach, Fox has posted an 81-18 record and won three straight Western Athletic Conference regular season titles. He has also directed Nevada to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, advancing to the second round twice.
