Angora fire help

ComputerCorps offers free help to fire evacuees, victims

ComputerCorps is offering free help for the victims, evacuees and emergency response personnel of the Angora fire.

At no cost, they will loan or replace computers, provide technical assistance with hardware and software, help with data recovery from damaged systems, design and print flyers for any use and provide use of their computer lab and printers.

Volunteers, technicians and donations are needed.

Girl Scouts set up collection site for donations

Girls Scout Troop No. 168 will set up a donation site for Angora fire evacuees and victims today in the parking lot between Carl's Jr. and the Station Grille. The site will be open 11-1 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. today and Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday and 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Needed items include blankets, pet foods, clothing, nonperishable food and bottled water. Cash donations cannot be accepted. Call 11-year-old Nicole Vairo at 230-5662.

Still room for senior evacuees at Sierra Place in Carson City

Sierra Place Retirement and Assisted Living Community announced that the facility can still accommodate several more senior citizens affected by the Angora fire. Sierra Place said it will offer free accommodations to senior citizens from South Lake Tahoe affected and/or displaced by the Angora fire for a period of up to one week.

Senior citizens from the South Lake Tahoe area in need of supportive care including housing in a smoke-free environment, meals, and/or assistance with medications, dressing, and bathing are eligible for the free accommodations. Call 841-4111.

Allstate Insurance catastrophe team headed to Tahoe

To help customers start the recovery process as soon as possible, Allstate has dispatched its national catastrophe team to the areas of Lake Tahoe affected by the Angora fire.

"Allstate's adjusters are going to evacuation centers and other areas to reach customers who have been displaced from their homes," said Allstate spokesperson Rich Halberg. "We want to make sure our customers can start the claim process as soon as possible."

With the fire still raging, adjusters cannot safely access the affected areas to assess damage to homes. However, adjusters can help Allstate customers who may be covered for additional living expenses incurred as a result of being evacuated by local officials from their homes due to the fire.

Carson City

Library Board meets Thursday

The Carson City Library Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Items include discussions about a recent planning retreat and potential relocation of the library. Tours of library in Las Vegas and northwest Reno also will be discussed.

Library lecture on Julia Bulette set for Thursday

Historian Susan James will present a lecture on Julia Bulette at 7 p.m.. Thursday at the Carson City Library.

James has published articles on Nevada topics for more than 25 years. Since 2003, she has served as the scholar-in-residence for the Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The library is at 900 N. Roop St.

Former flight attendant group seeks members

World Wings International Inc., a philanthropic organization of former Pan American World Airlines flight attendants, is seeking new members. The Reno Chapter has 25 members who meet five times a year to plan social and philanthropic activities. Their main fundraising event is working at the Reno Air Races, with recent proceeds going to CARE and SAFE (Special Advocates for the Elderly.)
