Saari helps Carson City Volleyball Club

Carson City's Capital City Volleyball Club should have an advantage next week when it comes to college recruiting at the Volleyball Festival in Reno.

The tournament, which features thousands of volleyball players and is the largest women's sporting event in the world, will be held July 2-7. Capital City Volleyball Club will have more than 160 athletes ages 10-18 from throughout Northern Nevada represented in the event. The club is directed by Dan McLaughlin, who has coached Whittell High to four straight NIAA 2A State titles.

Many college coaches will be at the tournament and Capital City Volleyball Club faetures a college recruiting coordinator in Jim Saari, who has coached at Ohio State, Utah, South Florida and the University of Nevada where he served as the recruiter for many of those programs..

"Jim uses his background and experience with the recruiting process, not to mention a wealth of contacts to assist Capital City players in the recruiting process," McLaughlin said. "He works diligently to identify the types of colleges that would most likely fit the individual player's academic and athletic abilities and then he aggressively pursues the coaches in those programs, imploring them to make sure they watch Capital City VBC matches."

Thanks in large part to Saari's efforts, every high school senior in the Capital City club seeking a scholarship over the past two years has received full or partial aid. They include: Carson High's Lindsay Ford, Hartford; Spring Creek's Tai Jaques, Southern Oregon; Fallon's Bridgette Boswell, Chadron State; Whittell Jessica Woods, Wright State; Whittell's Kelly Karmann, Cornell; Dayton's Diana Rutt, Franklin Pierce; South Tahoe's Shaylene McLaughlin, Lindenwood.
