William W. 'Grumpy' Franklin

A memorial service for William W. "Grumpy" Franklin, 86, a 65-year Carson City resident, will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Carson City Masonic Temple, 113 E. Washington St.

Mr. Franklin died March 8, 2007, in Carson City. He was born July 23, 1920, at Salt Lake City, to William John Franklin and Blanche Coakley.

He attended the University of Utah and was a retired Chief Warrant Officer for the Nevada National Guard.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He belonged to the Carson Lodge No. 1 of F&AM, Douglas Lodge No. 12 of F&AM, the Kit Carson Shrine Club and the Kerak Shrine Temple.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Franklin in 2006, a brother and a sister.

Among his survivors are daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Jerome Peek Ives of Truckee and Dr. Patricia Therrell and Michael Therrell of Snohomish, Wash.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Inurnment will be at a later date during a private family service at the Genoa Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Children Hospital in Sacramento, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
