J. Paul Foster, 87, a Carson City resident, died March 11, 2007.

Mr. Foster was born June 10, 1919, in Levenworth, Wash., to Thomas and Cora Price Foster.

He graduated from Puyallup High School in Washington, and the Western Washington College of Education. He later received his master's degree in physical education from San Francisco State College.

He taught and coached swimming, diving, football and tennis in Washington and Alameda, Calif., for 31 years.

He was elected Athletic Director of the Year for California, and was the South Western United States Director of the year.

He enjoyed his family, friends and students.

Among his survivors are his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Foster; daughter and son-in-law Paula and Rich Rollins; sisters Ruth Venderlinda and Hazel Raynor; sister and brother-in-law Dixie and Raymond Johnson; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Wenatchee, Wash.
