YERINGTON - Thanks to funding from the road construction tax and Regional Transportation Council, all of Lyon County's roads will be chip-sealed or slurry sealed in the next five years.
Gary Fried, Lyon County road manager, said the county's tentative road improvement plan for 2007 through 2011 includes the chip-sealing of about 47 miles in Smith Valley and 15 miles in Central Lyon County, including nearly 5 miles in Mound House and about 12 miles in Dayton for 2007.
The county will also use slurry seal for 2 miles of Dayton roads and 4 miles of Mark Twain roads.
"I'm very please we'll be able to cover the whole county in the next five years," said Commissioner Bob Milz, when the commission approved the plan.
The cost of the plan is estimated to be, in 2007, $1,467,600; in 2008, $1,396.945.53; in 2009, $1,017,499.61; in 2010, $1,008,702.61; and in 2011, $917,939.97. RTC and road construction funds will be used.
Among the 2008 projects will be to chip-seal nearly 20 miles of roads in Stagecoach and nearly 16 miles in Mark Twain and reconstruction of Sheep Camp Drive in Dayton.
The 2009 projects include the chip-sealing of nearly 36 miles of roads in Silver Springs.
In 2010, about 11 miles of Silver Springs roads will be chip-sealed. Slurry seal will be put on 12 miles of road in Mound House, Dayton and Mark Twain, as well as nearly 2 miles in Mason Valley.
In the final year of the plan, Fried said, the department will reconstruct Affonso Drive and other areas of Mound House.
