A celebration of life for Michael Gerald "Jerry" Chavez, 69, an 11-year Gardnerville resident, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Genoa Lakes Golf Course.

Mr. Chavez died April 30, 2007, in Gardnerville. He was born April 26, 1938, in Santa Fe, N.M., to Ray B. Chavez and Delia Valdez.

Before moving to Gardnerville, Mr. Chavez lived in Saugus, Calif.

He had a bachelor's degree from Redlands University.

He was the facilities manager for Rocketdyne in Santa Susanna, Calif.

He had served in the U.S. Air Force.

He belonged to the Sertoma Club, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and working out. He was an employed member of the Genoa Golf Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Edward, sister Pauline and grandson Samuel.

Among his survivors are his wife, Patricia Chavez; daughters and sons-in-law Theresa and Michael Brink of Santa Clarita, Calif.,. and Pamela and Rand Chavez-Whitney of Monroe, Wash.; daughter Daisy Maeling of Gardnerville; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Kimberly Chavez of Lancaster, Calif.; sister Pricilla Biller of Cerritos, Calif.; nine grandchildren and numerous extended relatives.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Memorial donations may be made to the Sertoma Club of Carson City/Gardnerville.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
