The Carson City School District is launching an online survey to gather community feedback on how well its Web site is serving the city's residents. The survey ends May 21.
Carson City residents can visit www.carsoncityschools.com and click on the "Web Survey" button to comment on what features and information are important. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, and all responses will remain confidential.
"So many people are using the Internet to get information, and we want to make sure that our site is an effective means of communication," said Janice Arthur-Towns, the school district's management information specialist. "We need to know what's important and where we should be focusing our resources. The best way to do that is to hear directly from the people who use our site. We really do hope folks will take advantage of the opportunity to voice their opinions."

When she started thinking about what to do for her senior project, Nicole Cheney wanted something that allowed her to use her talents to help others. Cheney decided to create and sell calendars to go toward research for Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system, for unknown reasons, becomes hyperactive and attacks normal tissue.
The subject of her calendar was her teachers at Carson High School and their families. Cheney took portraits and used them to complete her project.
"My favorite is probably July, I just like the expression in that picture," Cheney said.
She made 60 calendars and has sold more than 50 of them, raising more than $500 for the Lupus Foundation.
For her research paper, Cheney chose advancements in photographic technology, from the first cameras to the advent of digital technology.
Cheney has been taking pictures since she was in sixth grade.
