A memorial service for Charles Frank McCandless, 90, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Highway 208 in Yerington.

Mr. McCandless died May 3, 2007, at Evergreen Health Care in Carson City. He was born March 15, 1917, in Wichita, Kan., to Charles Franklin and Clara M. Oliver McCandless.

He married Olene Mallow in Long Beach, Calif., in 1935.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California before retiring in 1972 as a master planner.

He had visited almost all 50 of the states in the U.S., and belonged to IOOF Odd Fellows, Rebekah's and Canton for more than 50 years. He held the positions of grand patriarch, grand master and noble grand in California, Utah and Nevada lodges, and National Grand Encampment.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 20, 2004, and his son Charles Frank Mark McCandless.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Rosemary McCandless; grandchildren RobRoy A., Jamie A. and Kaleen R. McCandless and two great-grandchildren.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
