Fernley softball advances to state

FERNLEY 4, DAYTON 3, 9 INNINGS

Nicole Dunn hit a walk-off solo home run on a 3-2 count in the bottom of the ninth as Fernley earned a return trip to the NIAA 3A State Championships, sweeping the series against Dayton 2-0.

Sierra Barnwell went the distance for Dayton, allowing seven hits while striking out seven and walking one. Heather Matthews went the distance for the win for Fernley.

Brittany Hill was 2-for-5, Melissa Goetz went 3-for-4 with a run, Barnwell was 2-for-4 with a run, Breann DeHaven had a double and a run annd Katy Cross had a hit and two RBI for Dayton. Sevreana Johnson went 2-for-4 with a homer, Jamie King had a triple and a run, Nicole Whitney homered and Matthews went 2-for-3 for Fernley.
