Carson City residents interested in finding out more about area businesses or just enjoying an afternoon of music and entertainment won't have to travel far this year.

The Nevada Appeal's first Home and Lifestyle Expo, opening Saturday, promises a little something for everyone in the family.

Nevada Appeal Special Sections and Events Coordinator Laura Burns says the expo promises to be exciting.

"I think it's a show that's going to appeal to everyone," she said. "We didn't want something that's going to appeal just to home owners."

According to Burns, approximately 115 booths have been sold to area businesses for the event, which runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the old Wal-Mart building, 4209 S. Carson St.

Although this is the first year such an expo will be held in Carson City, Burns says plans are in the works to continue holding it on an annual basis.

"Basically Carson City's never had this before," Burns said. "Most people had to go to Reno or Auburn.

"We wanted to have something like that here to let people know the various services that we do have available to us right in our own area."

Vendors at the expo will range from home improvement to health and fitness, community services, crafters and artists.

Music will be provided by Magic 95.5, which will broadcast live from the expo on Saturday.

For children, there will be a craft area run by Life's a Party, where crafts, clowns and magicians will be on hand to entertain.

"The whole nine yards," Burns said. "It's really going to have a little bit of everything; it's going to be fantastic."

Admission is $2 for adults, which includes a ticket for a chance to win one of about a dozen prizes donated by participating vendors. Children under 12 enter free.

In addition to Magic 95.5 and Life's a Party, other sponsors include Truckee River Spa Co., Campagni Automotive Group, Coldwell Banker, News Channel 4, United Rentals, Lakemont Homes, Max Baer Productions and Briggs Electric.
