I invite you to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. Monday.

This event was established in 2000 by the White House to recapture the true meaning of Memorial Day: to honor all servicemen and women who selflessly gave their lives in service to our nation.

There are many ways to join together this weekend to remember, public and private. You may choose one or more ways to honor those who protected our freedom and instilled the values we hold dear as a country. You can offer a moment of silence, a prayer or visit a memorial or cemetery.

News reports of causalities remind us often that we are a nation at war. The loss of life is once again reshaping our nation and its families. As we pause to reflect, may we extend gratitude, love and peace to all those who gave their lives and to their families as we remember. May we bless them, and know that God is always with them.
