Call city to schedule leaf pick up beginning Nov. 13


The Carson City Public Works Operations Division will schedule appointments for limb and leaf pick-up Nov. 13 to Nov. 21. Pick-up will be Nov. 26 to Nov. 30.


Leaves must be bagged and limbs must be less than six feet long tied in bundles no more than four inches in diameter.


Bags and bundles cannot exceed 60 pounds each.


Pick-up is for vegetation only. Place the material on curbs in plain view.

Fundraiser to benefit Democratic Women's scholarship fund


Festive Faces for the Holiday Season benefit for Carson City Democratic Women's Club Scholarship Fund will be 7:30-10 p.m. today at Gottschalks. Join us for an exclusive demonstration and preview of the latest in cosmetics.


The store will be closed to public. Seating is limited, for information and to reserve a seat call 888-9098 or 841-6355. Desserts, refreshments will be served. Gift bags, door prizes. Tickets $10.


Senior Center Has 'Bling!' for sale today


Throughout the year, the Carson City Senior Citizens Center collects jewelry and periodically holds large jewelry sales as a fundraiser for senior center programs and are holding a sale today from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the center, 911 Beverly Drive.


There will also be a sale in conjunction with "Santa's Village on Nov. 10-11. Hours of Santa's Village are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.


If you have any jewelry to donate, it can be left at the main center reception desk 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Call 883-0703.

Henry Winkler is guest speaker at family court event


The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, based on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, has worked to improve outcomes for children and families. Throughout 2007, NCJFCJ has celebrated its 70th anniversary with a number of community events, culminating 6 p.m. Tuesday with a gala dinner at John Ascuaga's Nugget.


Actor, director, producer, child welfare advocate and best-selling children's author Henry Winkler will be the featured speaker. The public is invited.


Individual tickets are $150; a table of 10 is $1,500. A VIP reception with Henry Winkler will be held at 5:30 p.m.; individual tickets are $50.

Human resources group celebrates 40th anniversary today


The Northern Nevada Human Resources Association announces its 40th anniversary Celebration will be 5:30-9 p.m. today at John Ascuaga's Nugget. Cost to attend the gala event is $60 per person. To register for the event, go to www.nnhra.org.
