Carson City

Rotary club dinner scheduled

The Rotary Clubs of District 5190, Area 9 will present their second annual Rotary International Foundation Dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Gold Dust West Conference Center. The area nine clubs are the Rotary Clubs of Carson City, Carson City Sunset, Minden, South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe-Douglas.

The evening's keynote speaker is former U.S. Air Force pilot Brian Shul.

Wine tasting supports Richardson for President

Volunteers and supporters of Governor Bill Richardson for President, are having a wine tasting from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. Wednesday at D'Vine Wine Tasting and Bistro, 200 N. Stewart St. Wines have been selected to represent each of the Democrat candidates running for president. This is not an official Richardson campaign event. For information, call 883-4558.

BLM deadline extended

The Bureau of Land Management is extending the deadline for submitting public nominations to fill three vacancies on the national Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board to Dec. 7. The categories to be filled are: Wild Horse and Burro Advocacy, Veterinarian Medicine, and General Public Interest.

The BLM is accepting nomination letters plus resumes that include the nominee's name, address, profession, relevant biographical information, references, endorsements, and specific category of interest. Nominations should be sent to the National Wild Horse and Burro Program, Bureau of Land Management, Department of the Interior, P.O. Community flu shots 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson Mall, 1122 S. Stewart St.

Douglas County

County hosts bear meeting Tuesday

As part of an educational effort, Douglas County and the Business Council of Douglas County have teamed up to host meeting to help residents learn what they can do to lessen the likelihood of bears being attached to their neighborhoods at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.

Presenters from the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the BEAR League as well as county officials will present information.

Authors gathering a Minden library

The Douglas County Public Library, 1625 Library Lane in Minden, is presenting a gathering of local authors 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Authors attending include: Children's book author Linda Chambers, children's book author Jim Darrough, ecologist and poet Craig Downer, author and musician Robert Frost, cowboy poet Ken Gardner, and mystery writer Frank Rocha.
