More than 2,000 homes on the west side of Carson City were without power for three hours Thursday night into Friday morning after a roofing firm knocked down a power pole on Curry Street.
Karl Walquist, spokesman for Sierra Pacific Power Co., said that about 11:20 p.m. Thursday a forklift snagged a telephone line between Spear and Telegraph streets which then snapped a power pole causing the power line to break.
The forklift was part of a crew with a special permit to work late hours working on the roof of the former Lucky Spur, which houses Doppelgangers Bar and Grill, on Spear Street.
The outage ran from Washington to 10th streets and from Carson Street to Longview Way.
Walquist said all but 2,020 customers had their power restored by 2 a.m. Friday morning, 35 more customers had their power restored by 6 a.m. and the five remaining homes had power back up by 11 a.m.
The outage also affected traffic lights from William to Musser streets on Carson Street.
Walquist said an investigation into the cause of the outage will determine if the construction company will be responsible for repair costs.
