Lights on After School celebrated at Boys & Girls Club


The Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada will be celebrating Lights on After School today. This program is a nationwide event sponsored by the After School Alliance. The Lights on After School event is open to all parents and kids in the club.¹Parents of children who aren't in the Boys & Girls Club who would like to find out more, are welcome to attend with their children. There will be tons of games and events to keep the fun going.




Grant-writing workshop offered by arts council


This fall, the Nevada Arts Council staff will present two grant-writing workshops focusing on the agency's various grant and program opportunities for artists, educators, arts organizations, schools, public institutions and nonprofit community groups from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Nevada State Library and Archives Conference Room, 100 N. Stewart St. Pre-registration is recommended.

Airstream Club headed to Ft. Sage for camping rally


The Sierra Nevada Unit of the WBCCI Airstream Club will host a camping rally today to Sunday at the Ft. Sage BLM campground near Doyle, Calif., about 45 miles north of Reno on Highway 395.


Cost is $5 per night donation to the Sierra Nevada Unit.

Daughters of Norway meet tonight


The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet at 6 p.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1201 Saliman Road.


Founded Oct. 20, 2001, the group presents programs to preserve Norwegian heritage to maintain knowledge of the history, culture and language of Norway; and to build a support system and friendship within the group.


Women are invited to join the lodge that are of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic heritage or who are married or have been married to a Norwegian, etc.

Douglas County


Genealogy group hosting workshop at county library


The Douglas County Genealogy Group will hold an introductory workshop in how to research your ancestors 9-11:45 a.m. today at the Douglas County Public Library.


A review of home sources for genealogical research will be followed by an introduction of non-home sources of primary information led by Janet K. Armbrust.
