120 YEARS AGO

McLoughlin & Hawkins have finished boring the artesian well at John Rosser's ranch in Carson Valley and have succeeded in furnishing the Colonel with a well 225 feet deep, which delivers 40 gallons per minute two feet above the ground. It is the largest well so far struck at this end of the state.

100 YEARS AGO

Settlers are coming now into Churchill faster than at any time in the history of the project. Every train brings in half a dozen or more home seekers, and a large percentage of them are remaining in the country. They come here because they think we have the best proposition to offer settlers in the West. - Standard.

70 YEARS AGO

The lack of hospitalization in the state for tuberculosis has been stressed by the Lions Club of Reno in a proposal for concerted effort by Lions of the state in correcting the condition. The guests for today's meeting were Dr. Moulton of Reno, A. Schwahn of the Capitol City Laundry and "Amby" Martin, local manager of the Shell station.

50 YEARS AGO

Four new Brownies were welcomed into membership of troop 115 last week. Investiture ceremonies were conducted for Mimi McIllice, Joan Pugsley, Debbie Humphrey and Linda Scott. During the meeting, the first birthday celebration of the troop was held and one-year pins presented to Cathy Crawford, Jackie Fettic, Jennifer Gubler, Christine Long, Ginger Ogan, Suzette Imus, Julie Shultz, Michele Supera, Noel Tyler and Kathy Reil.

20 YEARS AGO

Plans for a funeral home for Sen. Charlie Joerg, R-Carson City, were swept away in a surprise 3-2 vote by the Board of Supervisors. Joerg had planned the business for a property at 610 W. Washington St.

10 YEARS AGO

The city won't compromise the historic district to create more parking following the denial by the Historic Architecture Review Commission of Cactus Jack's request to relocate the Hyman Olcovich house. Details for solving downtown parking woes are still limited.
