Carson volleyball sweeps past South Tahoe

The Carson High volleyball team looks like it's in playoff form after a 25-15, 25-7, 25-16 win over South Tahoe on Tuesday at Morse Burley Gym.

Carson (8-5 in the Sierra League) will open the Northern 4A playoffs next week against McQueen, a team the Senators lost to in five games early in the season.

Senator coach Shana Wilkins said the obvious goal is "to get past McQueen which will be a tough match.

"We've just been working hard trying to fix what we need to fix. We're doing really well. We're just trying to fine tune it. Hopefully we'll be able to come with the right attitude and right skills to be successful."

Carson rolled through the Vikings, taking control for good after trailing 13-12 in the third game. Breanna had two kills to give Carson a 12-11 lead before the Vikings came back to go up 13-12.

But Carson went on an 8-1 run to take a 20-14 lead. Anderson had an ace and Nicole Carlevato had a kill during the run. Carlevato had another kill to give Carson a 24-15 lead.

Carlevato had eight kills, three digs and two blocks, Morgan Nuckolls had four kills and one dig, Mavil Diaz had five digs and four aces, Nikki Keller had seven kills, two aces, two blocks and two digs, Kailey Taylor had five blocks, seven digs and two kills and Shannon Earwood added 31 assists.

DOUGLAS 3, HUG 0

The Tigers (30-4, 12-1) rolled to a 25-6, 25-10, 25-11 win at Douglas. Jourdan Burke had five kills, three aces, six points, two digs and three blocks, Bridget Maestretti had four kills, four aces, eight points, three digs and three blocks, Alyssa Todd had four kills, one ace and three blocks, Melissa Brown had two kills, Jessica Waggoner had two kills and one block, Taryn Williams had two kills, two digs, 10 points and seven aces, Christine DuPuis had one kill, four points and one ace, Allie Hughes had one kill, four aces, 10 points, four digs and 17 assists, Mary Lombino had five aces, 12 points and three digs, Mysta Townsell had one dig and Jordan Marsh added three digs.

Douglas won the junior varsity match 2-0 and the freshmen match 2-0.

CHS FROSH 2, SOUTH TAHOE 0

Carson (16-1) continued to play well as a team as it won 25-15, 25-20. Jazmine Stokes had 11 points, two aces, one assist, one kill and four digs, Elizabeth Bennett-Doran had one kill, Breann Perry had seven points, one ace, 12 assists, one kill and one dig, Makayla Drahos had one ace, three kills and four digs, Bailey Young nad one ace, one kill and three digs, Jeanette VanSickle and Ashley Elliott each had three kills, Kristi Shaffer had 11 points, one ace and five digs and Elysse Virden added two kills and two blocks.
