Schenzel leads Johnson & Wales soccer

Junior Jeremiah Schenzel, a Carson High graduate, scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in the 85th minute, to lead the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team to thrilling 4-3 victory against St. Joseph's of Maine in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship at Pierce Field on Sunday.

Schenzel helped the Wildcats overcome a 3-1 deficit, scoring to cut the deficit to 3-2 with just three minutes left in the game. Less than a minute later, Schenzel led a breakaway and fed Eric Flath for the game-tying score. Schenzel headed in the game-winner off of a throw-in.

Johnson & Wales, an NCAA Division III school in Providence, R.I., is now 12-4-3 and will play Bryan University today in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament.

Last Wednesday, Schenzel also scored a goal in a 3-0 win over Emmanuel.
