Readers' thoughts sought for anniversary of 9/11

The Nevada Appeal wants to know how or if the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are still affecting readers' lives. Did you know someone hurt by the attacks? Has the federal government's anti-terrorist strategy positively or negatively affected you? In general, have you had to change how you live your life?

Natives and Newcomers meeting set for Thursday

The Natives and Newcomers Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., upstairs, for a buffet luncheon.

Guest speaker is Helaine Jesse, of Western Nevada College, who will speak on back to school. Reservations must be made by today. For information and reservations, call 885-9019, or 883-9041.

Parts of aquatic center closed beginning today

The Carson Aquatic Facility will be closed today through Sept. 21 for indoor deck and floor resurfacing. The entire building will be closed. The outdoor pool will remain open but there will be no restroom or shower facilities available inside.

The Community Center locker rooms will be available, as well as portable toilets and outdoor unisex showers at the pool for those needing to use them. Call 887-2242.

Elder abuse workshop set

Douglas County TRIAD will host a recognition, identification of, and prevention of elder abuse workshop 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday at Valley Christian Fellowship, 1267 Highway 395.

Show paints pants on in Reno

Instead of putting on pants in the morning, try painting them on. That's what the performers in one of the hottest shows to hit Reno will be doing as they prepare for the Tuaca Body Art Ball.

The Body Art Ball, a 20-city tour, features breathtaking dances and show-stopping art as painted performers take to the stage.

Want to get an invite? You'll have to buddy up to your bartender to get into this show. The Body Art Ball is an invite-only private event hosted for area bartenders and servers who have helped to make Reno one of Tuaca's hottest markets.

The show is Tuesday, doors open at 7, show begins at 8:30 in Harrah's Reno, Sammy's Showroom.
