Mason officials to dedicate new playground equipment, skate park next week

New playground equipment and a coming skate track at the Mason Town Park are putting smiles on the faces of Mason children.

They'll have even more to smile about at a dedication ceremony at the park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 15, organized by the Mason Town Advisory Board.

Board Chairman George Murray Wilhelm spent a year and a half organizing the event, which will feature free hot dogs and burgers provided by the Kiwanis Club in Yerington, a dunk tank, Slip n' Slide, and a deejay will supply music.

Local Girl Scouts will lead other family-oriented activities, he said.

"This is mainly for our young people," he said. "We plan to have a skate track, which we were promised would be done before winter."

Murray Wilhelm said the new playground and skate track, when complete, will cost more than $40,000, and was essential in attracting young families to the park, located at 50 Bridge St. in Mason.

Mason is a historic community two miles south of Yerington.

The event will also feature displays of farm equipment and Mason Valley Fire Department and Emergency Response Equipment.

Car enthusiasts are invited to bring their custom cars for a car show.

Murray Wilhelm said the party and dedication was paid for by private donations.
