Douglas volleyball takes third in tournament

The Douglas High volleyball team went 6-2 to take third out of 36 teams at the High Sierra Tournament on Saturday.

One of the Tigers' losses on Saturday came to Ripon, Calif., 23-25, 25-21, 11-15. Megan Mitchell had 21 assists and seven points, Jessica Waggoner had five kills and four blocks, Mary Lombino had three points and eight digs, Jourdan Burke had six kills, a block and a dig, Taryn Williams had five kills, Christine DuPuis had three kills and six digs, Bridget Maestretti had three kills and Mysta Townsell had five points and three digs.

Also on Saturday, Douglas beat McQueen 25-23, 25-21 and Palo Alto, Calif., 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 and Golden Valley, Calif., 25-9, 23-25, 15-4.

Against Palo Alto, Mitchell had 30 assists, four digs and six points, Mary Lombino had 14 digs and five points, Alyssa Todd had five kills, Burke had 10 kills, four points and a dig, Williams had 12 kills, four points and two digs, Mel Brown had a kill and a point, Maestretti had eight kills, Waggoner had four kills, three blocks and a dig and Townsell had a kill, four points, an ace and 10 digs.

Against Golden Valley, Mitchell had one kill, five points and 14 assists, Allie Hughes had three kills, three points, a block and nine assists, Todd had two kills and a dig, Burke had three kills, seven points and a block, Williams had eight kills, nine points and a dig, Brown had two kills and two points, Maestretti had four kills, Waggoner had six kills and eight blocks, Jordan Marsh had two points and four digs and Townsell had three points, an assist and seven digs.

The Tigers' other loss came against Nevada Union, Calif., 10-25, 16-25. Mitchell had 10 assists, a block and three digs, Lombino had 11 digs and a point, Hughes had three kills and two digs, Burke had five kills, a block and six digs, Williams had two kills, 4 digs and a point, Waggoner had four kills and three blocks and Townsell had seven digs and four points.
