Carson City


Areas of Fifth Street and Butti Way to close at night this weekend


Areas of Fifth Street (State Route 513) and Butti Way in Carson City will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday for roadwork.


Fifth Street will be closed between Fairview Drive (previously North Edmonds Drive) and the Nevada State Prison. Butti Way will be closed between Fifth Street and Airport Road.


Traffic wishing to travel Fifth Street between Saliman Road and Fairview Drive can reach Fairview Drive where it intersects Saliman Road. Butti Way traffic can exit by traveling east on Butti Way to Fairview Drive.


Access for local businesses will be available.


The work includes paving and installation of a new storm drain.




Senior center needs silent-auction items


The Carson City Senior Citizens Center's second annual "U Pick It" silent auction is Oct. 5.


The center needs donated items for the auction. Items may be brought to Barbara Tonge at the center, in administration.


If items are left at the reception desk, be certain to leave a note on it specifying it is for the U Pick It Auction. For large items to be picked up or for information, call Lada Trimble, chairwoman, at 882-6061.


Alyce McCracken Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at Eagle Valley


The Board of Realtors is staging the Alyce McCracken Memorial Golf Tournament - Scramble for Scholarship - Saturday at Eagle Valley Golf Course.


The prizes are: $10,000 for a hole in one; a Harley-Davidson for a hole in one. Other prizes (like a set of tires) are worth hundreds of dollars. Last year, the event (which got off to a late start) generated $10,000 and the upswing of 100 people.


This year, the goal is $30,000 and 130 people.

Learn about feng shui at a one-day workshop offered at WNC


Will painting the office a lighter color ease stress?


Western Nevada College offers a noncredit community education class this fall on feng shui, the Chinese practice of creating harmonious surroundings that enhance the balance of yin and yang.


Special Topics: Holistic Living Intro to Feng Shui (CMSV 095C, Call #37019, Sec. C01) will be offered 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.


This one-day workshop will introduce the foundational theories of feng shui.


The cost is $60.

Douglas County


Curses hanging around in historical society play


The Douglas County Historical Society will perform "The Curse of the Hanging Tree," loosely based on the most infamous hanging in Nevada history - it was all over a 25-cent drink.


Performance dates are 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6, 6:45 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.


Seating is limited.


Tickets can be purchased at the Genoa Courthouse Museum or the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.


Tickets are $15 per person. Call 782-2555.
