What she does: Teaches people how to paint in the style of television host Bob Ross. She has been inspired by the show herself. "I never miss it," she said.
How she started: Gurney, a grandmother, has always liked painting in water colors and oils, but "fell in love with painting" after she took classes. She taught at a craft store, then started her own studio.
When she came to Carson City: She moved from Virginia in 1969.
What students like to paint: Usually landscapes. She teaches them step-by-step how to do it.
What she likes to paint: "Whatever hits me," she said.
