The Carson City Sheriff's Department will be putting extra deputies on the streets to patrol for drunken drivers, an official said.
Because April is Alcohol Awareness Month, through April 30, grant money will pay the overtime for deputies to patrol the roads to crack down on drunken drivers, said Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Jarrod Adams.
"The alcohol content of standard drinks of beer, dinner wine or distilled spirits (either straight or in a mixed drink) are equivalent - about six-tenths of an ounce each," said Adams. "So it's not (what) you choose to drink but how much you drink that's important."
Adams said studies show that high visibility of traffic enforcement is one of the best ways to ensure compliance with driving-under-the-influence laws.
Funding for the overtime used in this campaign is paid for with grant money from Joining Forces, administered by the Nevada Office Of Traffic Safety, Department of Public Safety.
