The doctor is in and if you have an imagination you should see him and his young friends at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. They'll be there with "Seussical, Jr." from Dec. 5-14, a musical version of the books, produced by Wild Horse Children's Theater

Amid all the holiday entertainment, good old doc Seuss' characters come to life anew with a nice change of pace for Carson City.

The show "Seussical, Jr." is based on Dr. Seuss' many imaginative and original characters from his collection of books.

The Cat in the Hat (from the book of the same name) is the narrator who stirs up the action to create fun as heroic Horton the Elephant tries to protect the people of Whoville, who live on a tiny speck of dust (they have housing problems, too).

Characters and settings from 17 Seuss masterpieces are woven into the action,

including "Green Eggs and Ham," "Yertle the Turtle," "The Lorax," "Horton Hatches the Egg," "The Sneetches" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

"This production has been a delight to direct," Carol Scott, executive director of Wild Horse Children's Theater said. "We have an amazing cast and crew. The show will be a magical experience for everyone that attends this show. The show will delight audience members of all ages " from the littlest ones to the grandparents."

Wild Horse Children's Theater and the Carson City Library are teaming up to double the fun of any child who loves reading. The two organizations are working together to create an innovative approach to promote literacy and the performing arts. In a special partnership, they are offering children 12 and under the opportunity to earn free admission to performances of "Seussical, Jr." Special bookmarks are available at the Carson City Library. Children who check out and read any five books by Dr. Seuss may validate these cards with the library staff.

Children who bring the signed and stamped cards to any performance of "Seussical, Jr." are eligible to receive one free child's ticket. Up to four qualifying children may attend per paid adult admission.

Performances of "Suessical, Jr." are at 7 p.m. Dec. 5, 6,12 and 13, and 4 p.m. on Dec. 6,7,13 and 14, all at the Children's Museum. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $5 for ages 12 and under, and children 3 and under are free. Call 887-0438 or see wildhorsearts@aol.com, or visit www.wildhorsetheater.com.

"This colorful, fun, an upbeat production is designed to entertain children and adults alike, and is recommended for audience members as young as 4 years of age," Scott said.

"It's a great way to expose children to the arts in our community."
