Snowtires, chains required on most area roads

Drive carefully on surface streets as the received an accumulation of snow overnight.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 5:47 a.m. all routes are open with no controls with the following exceptions:

Highway 395 " Snowtires or chains required for 43 miles between 8.6 miles south of Gardnerville and .4 miles south of SR 341 and 431.

Highway 50 " Snowtires or chains required for 48.8 miles between .7 miles east of the Nevada-California state line and 11.1 miles west of junction US 95A at Silver Springs.

Interstate 80 " Chains required except for 4-wheel drive vehicles for 58.2 miles between Alta, California exit 146 and .7 miles east of the California state line.

Snowtires or chains required for 6.3 miles between .7 miles east of the California state line and .1 miles west of Mogul, exit 7.

Snowtires or chains required for 125.9 miles between .6 miles east of junction East McCarren Boulevard, Sparks, and 1.5 miles west of Imlay, exit 145.

SR 341 " Snowtires or chains required for 22 miles between .1 miles north of US50 and US 395, bottom of Geiger Grade.

SR 342 " Snowtires or chains required for 3.8 miles between SR 341 at Silver City and SR 341 at Virginia City.

SR 431 " Snowtires or chains required for 24.5 miles between SR28 and US 395.

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays. There is continued work on Fairview Drive from South Edmonds to South Carson Street with lane closures and possible delays, as with East Fifth Street from Saliman Road to Fairview Drive.

Work on Highway 50 in east Carson City and Mound House has posted lower speed limits with narrow lanes just east of Flint Drive.

Today's weather for the Carson City area will be mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers in the morning then isolated snow showers in the afternoon with highs 28-38 with west winds around 10 mph.

Tonight, cloudy with a chance of snow after midnight; lows 17-27 with west winds up to 10 mph shifting to the south after midnight.

Wednesday, cloudy with a chance of snow in the morning, then chance of snow and rain in the afternoon. Snow level rising to 5000 feet. Highs 30-40 with south winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon.
