Former Mason Valley Justice of the Peace Dennis Milligan was appointed today to become the Lyon County Public administrator.

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners took the action because public administrator Jason McLean, who has been charged with theft, did not post the additional $100,000 bond as required by the commission at their last meeting.

The commissioners declared the position empty, then appointed Milligan, who will have to run for election to the post in November of 2008.

McLean was not at Thursday's meeting.

McLean, 35, is charged with four felonies for allegedly embezzling more than $16,000 from three different estates in January, February and March 2007. A court hearing set for Jan. 23 was continued. No new date has been set.

McLean was elected as county administrator in November 2006. As such, he secures the money and property of a deceased person if an heir is not immediately apparent and with court approval, administers the estate.
